EarlySalary is a finance app that let's you borrow your salary earlier than the payday.
BLUF
I designed the Buy Now Pay Later feature extension for EarlySalary by creating a scalable, category driven offer layout that blended familiarity with modern visual refinement. The solution helped EarlySalary expand its competitive presence, supported the company’s move into partner based financing, and contributed to higher offer adoption and a clearer brand experience.
Situation
EarlySalary was at a strategic point where expanding its product footprint was essential to staying competitive. The financial technology landscape had shifted toward more user friendly credit experiences, and Buy Now Pay Later had become one of the fastest growing models. Users expected the ability to browse products from major brands, receive instant financing approval, and complete purchases quickly. Competitor apps used this setup effectively, offering curated deal pages, smooth categorised navigation, and attractive UI elements that increased browsing engagement.
EarlySalary wanted to enter the same space with a strong presence. Their goal was to offer users the ability to purchase from partners like Amazon, Flipkart, MakeMyTrip, and other merchant ecosystems, while financing the purchase through EarlySalary’s credit line. The company recognised that although the credit terms were competitive, the success of the feature depended heavily on the experience that surrounded it. Users needed to feel that browsing offers was simple, engaging, and trustworthy. If the design looked outdated or the interface felt confusing, users would instinctively prefer competitor apps that seemed more polished.
At the same time, EarlySalary’s existing design system leaned toward functional simplicity. The brand had a fixed palette, defined typography, and predictable layout structures. While these ensured consistency, they also made parts of the app feel visually dated compared to newer financial apps that had adopted richer visual layers. The new Buy Now Pay Later feature needed to serve as a blend between stability and freshness. It had to feel like a natural part of EarlySalary’s visual language, but also needed enough refinement to compete with polished alternatives.
This created a clear design environment. The company required a home for all merchant offers, a structure that allowed smooth browsing, a system that could scale as partners increased, and a visual approach that aligned with both brand familiarity and modern expectations.
Task
My task was to design the Buy Now Pay Later page so that it met three essential requirements.
-> The first requirement was alignment with the existing design standards. The layout, spacing, color use, and type hierarchy needed to be consistent with EarlySalary’s established brand. The feature should not feel like an entirely new design system, but an evolution of what users already trusted.
-> The second requirement was scalability. EarlySalary planned to onboard more partners and categories over time. The interface needed to be flexible enough to handle dozens of brands without redesigning the core experience. It needed clear sections, repeatable components, and a stable hierarchy so content growth would not create visual clutter.
-> The third requirement was user clarity. The page needed to make discovery easy, support fast decision making, and present offers with minimal friction. Users should immediately understand what deals were available, which categories they belonged to, and how to access financing.
Beyond these core tasks, I also saw an opportunity to refine the visual expression of the feature. Without breaking away from the brand system, I aimed to introduce subtle improvements in depth, surface treatment, and layout structure. These refinements would help the design feel competitive with leading apps and create a foundation for future visual updates across the product.
